Job summary

Shermco Industries is hiring a Field Service Technician to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and repair on distribution systems and equipment. You will work with a team to complete the work safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

The role requires traveling to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and collect data on low, medium and high voltage systems, including transformer testing, relay and switchgear work, and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of switchgear testing and troubleshooting experience.
• ABET/ABET-equivalent degree or military training in Electrical Power & Controls.
• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 40%.
• Must read, write and speak English fluently.
• Willing to work overtime, weekends and nights as needed.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and data collection on low, medium and high voltage systems (480 V to 600 kV).
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, etc.).
• Test relays (electro-mechanical and solid state) and switchgear/circuit breakers; perform cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot ATS and rotary equipment; contribute to relays calibration and metering tasks.
• Rotate on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies as needed.
