Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com Bremerton seeks an experienced Estimator/Planner to create NMD availabilities, work specifications, and cost estimates for repairs on government and commercial vessels. You will coordinate with subcontractors, track labor and material costs, and develop bid-ready packages from drawings and data.

The role requires familiarity with Navy ship repair environments, ability to read ship drawings, and strong communication across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Typically has a BA/BS in a related field, or AA/AS plus two (2) years directly related experience, or six (6) years directly related experience.
• Familiar with working in a Navy ship repair environment.
• Knowledge of shipboard nomenclature and systems; ability to estimate labor and material costs for repairs and upgrades.
• Ability to read drawings, blueprints, standard items, and specifications of work items.
• Working knowledge of Navy Maintenance Database (NMD) Planning and Execution Modules.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and data access for estimating and bid preparation.

Responsibilities

• Create NMD availabilities, Work Specifications, and Estimates.
• Develop and issue planning documents and work items per instructions and directives.
• Develop a comprehensive cost estimate to support proposals.
• Participate in job site inspections and ship checks to verify technical information.
• Identify cost elements including labor, subcontracts, rentals and materials.
• Prepare requisitions for subcontracts, rentals and materials to support pricing.
• Interface with Subcontracts Group to resolve technical and schedule issues.
• Prepare work breakdown structures to support submittals and negotiations.
• Establish execution approaches with project and production management.
• Collaborate with Production and Schedulers to produce an integrated schedule.
• Resolve technical and schedule issues with contracts and management.
