Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking an experienced Rig Welder to certify on multi-process pipe welding, proficient in SMAW, GTAW and GMAW. The role involves reading blueprints, laying out and welding fabrications to assemble machinery frames, tanks, vessels and piping systems.

Responsibilities include selecting materials, planning layouts, and applying welding techniques across positions while ensuring safety and quality per procedures and project rules.

Qualifications

• Certify on multi-process pipe welding including SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW.
• Ability to read blueprints and metallurgy.
• Must meet certification standards and perform safety tests.
• Work with various welding positions and heat control.

Responsibilities

• Selects type and size of pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications.
• Plans layouts and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal, welding shrinkage and techniques.
• May use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together in various body positions.
• Bolts, clamps and welds together metal components using arc welding equipment; may weld in various positions.
• Connects cable from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope and pulse as specified by procedure or supervisor.
• Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads electrode wire through portable welding gun.
• Starts power supply to produce electric current.
• Strikes arc to melt and deposit metal and join edges.
• Manually guides electrode or gun to form depth of fusion and bead as observed by color, sound and puddle size.
• May apply filler rod, clean weld joints, and clean or degrease as needed.
• May repair damaged parts and remove excess weld material and slag.
• May preheat work piece and cut metal plates or shapes.
