Job summary

DOCS Dermatology Group in Glenview, IL, seeks a Mohs Medical/Surgical Assistant to support physicians in surgical and medical dermatology settings. You will advocate for patients, review histories, escort to rooms, and assist during procedures, ensuring safety and compassion.

The role includes preparing sterile trays, documenting in EHR, handling specimen logging, and coordinating care while adhering to HIPAA and practice protocols. Evening shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications.

• Ability to follow or provide verbal and written instructions with good grammar and spelling.
• Interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Analytical problem solving for routine tasks.
• Basic to intermediate EHR understanding.
• Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam, surgery and treatment
• Review medical history and confirm purpose of visit
• Escort patient to exam or surgical room
• Review and obtain surgical informed consent with the patient prior to their procedure
• Take appropriate photographs
• Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital signs and test results in an Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Prepare and set up sterile surgical tray
• Prepare patient for Mohs surgery and numb with local anesthetics as directed
• Collect blood, tissue or other specimens and prepare for testing
• Provide patient care and assist physician during surgery
• Educate and provide post wound care instructions to patient
• Authorize drug refills, enter prescription information into EHR, provide to pharmacies
• Scribe surgical and office visits
• Sterilize instruments and operate autoclave
• Prepare treatment rooms for exams, keep clean
• Dispose of infection waste and biohazard materials
• Provide safety precautions
• Schedule appointments and coordinate care
• Change wound dressing
• Handle triage calls and document
• Notify patient of all results
• Inventory and assess instruments and supplies
• Document procedures accurately
• Respond to emergencies per nursing standards
• Perform medical assistant duties for non-Mohs patients
• Adhere to policies and uphold high-quality care
• Evening shifts may be required
• Perform other duties as needed
