Overview
This position is responsible for visiting long-term care facilities and assisting physicians with dental care. Main duties include maintaining clinical records and charts through electronic medical records, as well as caring for and cleaning medical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist with patient care in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Review, verify, and maintain current and accurate clinical records, charts, and medical history through electronic medical records.
- Ensure the integrity of all documentation.
- Update the patient odontogram for each patient encounter.
- Pass instruments and supplies efficiently to the dentist for appropriate care.
- Maintain the treatment area by evacuating, washing, isolating, drying, and illuminating properly.
- Provide daily feedback and collaborate with the branch office to optimize the dental schedule and reporting.
- Manage patient flow during facility visits and assist with wheelchair transport if needed.
- Balance and generate daily production reports and submit them to the dentist upon departure.
- Post dental charges accurately and promptly to the appropriate provider.
- Care for and clean medical equipment; troubleshoot issues and report to appropriate resources.
- Schedule and perform planned maintenance for dental equipment.
- Clean up the service area used in the facility.
- Inspect and maintain the vehicle’s exterior and interior; perform routine support tasks like oil changes, refueling, and replacing brake lights.
- Manage dental supplies inventory by auditing stock, anticipating needs, and placing orders to minimize waste.
- Ensure all dental equipment functions properly by completing preventive maintenance following manufacturer instructions.
- Assist in diagnosing patients by exposing and processing digital dental radiographs.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques.
- Able to multitask, be detail-oriented, and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
- Possess strong knowledge of medical and dental terminology.
- Ensure a positive experience for patients.
- Follow all OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with patients, family members, providers, faculty, and staff.
- Respond promptly to patient inquiries and document conversations in the EMR.
- Travel up to 100% of the time as required.
- Support and comply with all aspects of the compliance program, including training and reporting suspected violations.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information, adhering to HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
- React positively to change and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- High School diploma or GED.
- Medical/Dental Assistant experience preferred.
- Reliable transportation, a good driving record, and valid car insurance.
- Completed and passed a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test.
- Hepatitis B vaccination is preferred.
- State radiation license or certification.
- Good computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions and listen to patient and doctor needs.
Physical Demands :
Requires full body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Must be able to stand, walk, push, and stoop periodically. Frequent lifting may be required depending on the division. Must have corrected vision and hearing. Work may involve stressful conditions, irregular hours, and exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
