Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on concrete, steel, and machine-part projects. You’ll process data in Artec Studio and deliver meshes, reports, and scan-to-CAD files for clients.

The role requires on-site endurance, ability to travel regionally, and familiarity with CAD drawings and inspection standards. Training and growth paths exist toward lead technician and regional roles.

Qualifications

Experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects.
Knowledge of scan processing, registration, and export.
Ability to read structural drawings and CAD models.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape-measure backbones, and overlapping zones.
Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
