Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician (Laboratory Support) to perform a range of clinical laboratory tests and support quality assurance in American Indian communities.

Qualifications

• GS-4 requires six months general experience.
• GS-4 requires six months specialized experience in performing technical medical laboratory support work.
• Option: associate degree with one year of certified laboratory assistant training.
• GS-5 requires one year of specialized experience or a bachelor’s degree.
• GS-6 requires one year of specialized experience in standardized clinical laboratory tests.
• GS-7 requires one year of specialized experience at GS-6 level or applicable graduate education.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate test results and troubleshoot procedures for accuracy.
• Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; prepare reagents and culture media; monitor quality control.
• Collect and process patient specimens; evaluate specimen acceptability and accession in laboratory systems.
• Validate and document laboratory results; communicate information to healthcare providers; support quality assurance and safety compliance.
