UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Renton, WA invites applications for a Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee/1 in the Microbiology Team at the Renton Central Lab. The role offers a 100% FTE, day shift, with a Wednesday–Sunday schedule, and an opportunity to work with a diverse test menu in a state‑of‑the‑art facility.

You will prepare, evaluate and report smears, perform bacterial/yeast/mold testing, serology, and operate advanced equipment while maintaining quality

Qualifications

• MLS trainee/MLS1 requirements including accredited degree or equivalent experience.
• Eligible for ASCP certification within 18 months of hire.
• 1 year of MLS experience may count toward requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, evaluate, and report direct smears and stains.
• Perform tests for identification of bacteria, yeast, mold and parasites.
• Perform serological procedures including PCR, EIA, latex agglutinations.
• Operate a variety of laboratory equipment and troubleshoot as needed.
• Maintain quality control and document errors and corrections.
