Job summary

University of Washington’s UW Medicine – DLMP in Seattle, WA invites applications for an MLS Trainee/1 in the Molecular Microbiology Team at the UW Medicine-Central Lab, Renton. The role includes PCR testing, DNA extraction, and sequencing with advanced equipment, contributing to patient care.

You will support MLS staff, communicate with hospital staff, and continue education through seminars and CAP proficiency surveys to maintain certification.

Qualifications

• Accredited bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science OR equivalent education/experience.
• Eligible to take ASCP certification within 18 months of hire; failure may lead to termination.

Responsibilities

• Performs PCR tests for bacterial, yeast and parasite identification.
• Performs DNA extraction and sets up PCR, real-time PCR, and sequencing reactions; operates molecular instruments.
• Maintains LIMS data entry, prints worksheets, analyzes DNA sequences, and prepares case reports.
• Adheres to quality control and verifies results; communicates professionally with staff.
• Mentors new staff and students; participates in education and CAP proficiency surveys.
