Job summary

UW Medicine’s Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Renton seeks a MLS Trainee/1 for the Molecular Microbiology Team at the Central Lab. You will perform PCR tests, DNA extraction, sequencing, and operate advanced molecular equipment.

You will learn to interpret results, maintain quality control, and communicate with hospital staff to ensure timely patient care. The role requires collaboration with MLSs, CLTs, and trainees.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests and report results in the LIS.
• Execute PCR tests for identification of bacteria, yeast and parasites.
• Prepare DNA extraction, setup real-time PCR and DNA sequencing reactions.
• Operate molecular equipment (Qiagen Qiacube, EZ2 extractor, Qiagility, ZAG, 3730xl, MiSeq, Biomek Nxp, NGS Star).
• Ensure quality control and document errors, communicate with healthcare staff.
