University of Washington in Seattle invites applications for two Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Trainee/1 positions with the Division of Infectious Disease Diagnostics (DIDD) at the Renton Central Laboratory.

You will join UW Medicine's DIDD team to conduct infectious disease testing across microbiology, virology, molecular diagnostics, and antimicrobial susceptibility, contributing to patient care and diagnostic quality.

Qualifications

• MLS Trainee requirements include accredited bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• Eligible to take ASCP certification within 18 months from date of hire; failure to attain may lead to termination.
• MLS 1 requires current MLS certification with ASCP or equivalent, and one year of MLS trainee experience.

Responsabilités

• Perform infectious disease diagnostic testing following procedures and quality standards.
• Prepare and report smears and stains (Gram, KOH, Pneumocystis DFA, acridine orange, Kinyoun, Wright/Giemsa).
• Perform bacterial, yeast, and parasite identification tests.
• Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing (disk diffusion, Etest, MIC).
• Conduct serological and molecular testing (latex agglutination, EIA, PCR).
• Operate automated and specialized laboratory equipment (blood culture systems, mass spectrometry, BioFire, Cepheid GeneXpert, microscopes).
• Record, interpret results and communicate critical findings to medical staff.

Formation

Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science

ASCP certification eligibility within 18 months from hire

Current MLS certification with ASCP or equivalent certifying organization (MLS 1)
