Job summary

University of Washington Medical Center seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 for the Molecular Microbiology Team at Renton Central Laboratory. The role supports MLSs and communicates with hospital staff while performing simple lab tests and preparing specimens for testing.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and 1 year of lab experience, or completion of an ASCP-approved lab assistant course. Experience in Molecular Biology is desirable.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
• Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, performs simple and qualitative clinical laboratory tests and set up specimens for laboratory tests and other laboratory work.
• Prepares master mixes for PCR and QCs performance. Aliquots bulk reagents into usable volume.
• Logs in specimens when required.
• Exhibits a working knowledge of the laboratory information system software and uses it to log in specimens.
• Understands quality control requirements and follows policies to validate results. Works independently to manage average workloads and knows when to request assistance in case of heavier workloads.
• Performs other duties to support the clinical laboratory as assigned.
