Job summary

Summer Consultants Inc. invites mechanical engineering students to join our 2027 internship program. As an intern you will support real project work on renovating and modernizing federal, institutional, and historic facilities, with field surveys and in-office design tasks.

You will gain hands-on experience with HVAC and plumbing systems, Ductwork and piping layouts, and tools like Revit and AutoCAD, under the guidance of experienced engineers, with opportunities to grow responsibility.

Qualifications

• Two years completed toward a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering (HVAC focus) or Mechanical Engineering.
• Genuine interest in HVAC and building systems.
• Curiosity about how buildings are constructed, operated, and modified.
• Willingness to spend meaningful time in the field surveying existing conditions.
• Ability to learn from engineers, ask questions, and contribute as part of a project team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Microsoft Word and Excel skills; AutoCAD and Revit experience preferred.
• Ability to access client sites, including federal facilities, as required.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical and plumbing design work on renovation and existing-building projects.
• Participate in field surveys to observe and document building conditions and systems.
• Assist with HVAC and plumbing calculations, equipment selection, and layouts.
• Translate survey information and constraints into project drawings and design docs.
• Use Revit and AutoCAD to support project work.
• Coordinate with engineers and designers from other disciplines.
• Ask questions, apply feedback, and take on increasing responsibility.
• Help solve client problems with curiosity, precision, quality, and follow-through.
