Job summary

HKS, Inc. is seeking an experienced Mental & Behavioral Health Studio Practice Leader to oversee the studio and multiple project teams delivering design solutions for specialized health facilities.

You will drive strategy, mentor designers, manage client relations, and coordinate resources across projects and venues. The role emphasizes leadership, relationship-building and collaboration, with travel to multiple locations and a focus on delivering high-quality documentation and client

Qualifications

• Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design, related field or relevant education/experience
• Licensure or certification in chosen field preferred
• Typically 15+ years of experience in leadership with project work and talent/resource development
• Significant vertical knowledge in mental and behavioral health facility planning and design including specialized facilities
• Sustainable design accreditation preferred
• Familiarity with design-related software, especially Vision
• Experience using MS Office Suite including MS Project and Teams
• Proficiency in logistics management and team leadership

Responsibilities

• Oversee projects assigned to the studio focusing on process, delivery, work environment and documentation
• Collaborate on strategic planning and resource allocation with studio leaders
• Partner with studios to advance firm-wide goals and client relationships
• Lead programming, schematic design, design development through delivery for projects
• Mentor designers and lead critiques to ensure high-quality design documentation
• Interface with clients to understand mission, goals and progress; manage expectations
• Monitor staffing, utilization and growth within the studio and adjust as needed
• Evaluate studio efficiency across staff, operations and finances
• Provide technical guidance and grow team capabilities
• Support design leadership in presenting strategy and concepts to clients
• Collaborate with office directors to align with firm priorities
• Incorporate Design Measures and sustainable practices into client solutions
• Operate with ONE Firm mindset, coordinating with Global Practice Director
• Seek opportunities to apply best practices and innovations across projects
• Persuade and negotiate on critical project issues
