Job summary

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cambridge, MA seeks a Membership Engagement Manager to develop and implement initiatives that connect members with the Academy’s work. This role reports to the Director of Membership Engagement and collaborates with the Membership Engagement and Events team.

You will design hybrid events, staff local committees, draft remarks, and track engagement metrics, contributing to publications and striving to advance diversity and inclusion across programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 5–7 years of relevant experience in communications, member or volunteer engagement, project management, development, and/or event planning.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituents.
• Ability to plan, manage projects, and meet deadlines.
• Strategic thinker with intellectual curiosity and initiative.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and advance relationships with Academy members, planning meetings, events and activities.
• Staff Local Committees and Activities in communities where members live and work; recruit and onboard chairs and committee members.
• Contribute to design and execution of virtual, in‑person, and hybrid events; lead development of meeting content and outreach; manage on‑site logistics and evaluation.
• Develop, draft, and edit remarks for the President and other members, and prepare correspondence and briefing materials.
• Propose and contribute content for the Academy’s publications and website.
• Track engagement activities and data; produce metrics and reports showing engagement levels and growth opportunities.
• Integrate diverse perspectives into all programming.
