Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Scribe to support clinicians by documenting encounters in real time within the EHR under supervision. The role includes introducing yourself to patients, accurately recording histories, tests and plans, and assisting with non-clinical tasks to boost provider productivity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient in medical terminology and basic coding knowledge.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Able to actively listen and observe.
• Keyboard proficiency and the ability to operate a computer.
• Ability to multi-task in a high-stress environment.
• Understanding of patient information confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Document information in real time into the EHR under the provider's supervision.
• Identify and introduce self and role to patient and family.
• Observe and enter details from encounters into the EHR directly for the Provider.
• Accompany provider during patient interviews and examinations.
• Record history, exams, medications, allergies and family history.
• Record procedures and lab results as reviewed by the Provider.
• Assist with preparation of paperwork for patient disposition.
• Help increase provider productivity by non-clinical tasks.
• Adhere to HIPAA and NMHC policies; protect confidentiality.
• Do not participate in clinical care; refer requests to clinicians.
