Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE

Reviews reports on diseases and surgeries, codes in accordance with classifications, and prepares statistical reports while maintaining indexes and files.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Verifies insurance benefits with third-party payors, documents in the hospital system, and monitors benefits throughout inpatient stays.
2. Informs patients about financial policies, establishes payment plans, and assists in resource identification.
3. Obtains pre-certification approvals for inpatient stays, referring cases to physicians or Utilization Review as needed.
4. Interviews responsible parties to determine credit status, verifies information, and maintains confidentiality.
5. Initiates sponsorship applications and schedules appointments based on credit and account evaluations.
6. Calculates deposit requirements, informs patients, and coordinates collection with staff.
7. Coordinates with physicians and staff for pending admissions to ensure proper information is received.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in patient accounts related area required
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
