Job summary

Avera DeSmet Memorial Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to support day-to-day laboratory operations. The role involves maintaining instruments, performing a range of tests, and ensuring quality control and continuous education.

Responsibilities include communicating results promptly to care teams, handling specimens correctly, and participating in quality improvement activities. The position requires MLS certification or equivalent and the ability to work weekends and holidays

Qualifications

• Requires degree or cert in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation and related duties.
• Initiate corrective action and prioritize workflow with MLS supervision as needed.
• Perform standard to complex clinical laboratory tests following established procedures.
• Communicate lab data to departments and healthcare providers accurately and timely.
• Correlate results, apply critical thinking, and seek supervisor resources as needed.
• Assess result validity and take corrective action when values differ from expectations.
• Participate in CQI activities and provide guidance on specimen collection and handling.
