Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform a variety of clinical tests and contribute to quality control in a busy hospital lab.

The role involves equipment calibration, specimen handling, result reporting, and collaboration with multiple departments to ensure accurate patient results. MLS/ASCP or AMT certification within 1 year is required or expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Transcript showing Medical or clinical Laboratory Scientist degree or a related chemical, physical or biological degree.
• Bachelor's Transcript showing Medical Technology degree.
• MLS - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 Year or
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1 Year

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation or disciplines including supply inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent preparation, etc.
• Accurately performs basic to complex clinical laboratory tests using established protocols and equipment manuals.
• Distinguishes between normal and abnormal parameters and assures rechecks; alerts staff for abnormal results.
• Communicates laboratory data to appropriate departments in a timely fashion.
• Critiques and correlates results using independent judgment and protocols.
• Contributes to development of lab protocols, CQI, or new instrumentation.
• Provides technical guidance and training to team members on equipment/procedures.
• Instructs on proper pre-analytical specimen collection and handling.
