Job summary

Avera St Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD seeks licensed Medical Laboratory Scientists and Medical Laboratory Technicians for a Regular position with rotating days/evenings/nights. The role involves high-complexity testing, QA/QC, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

• Visual acuity adequate to perform duties and effective communication with others.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation or disciplines including inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent prep, and corrective action.
• Accurately performs basic to complex clinical laboratory tests using knowledge and established protocols.
• Distinguishes normal vs abnormal parameters, rechecks abnormals, and alerts staff with documentation.
• Communicates laboratory data and technical information to appropriate departments in a timely fashion.
• Critiques and differentiates results using knowledge and independent judgment.
• Participates in development of protocols, lab manuals, new instrumentation, CQI and related activities.
• Provides guidance and training to team members on equipment/procedures.
• Provides instructions on specimen collection, handling, and storage; may collect specimens as needed.
