Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coding Specialist to perform thorough medical record review, assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and support accurate billing. You will interpret diagnoses, procedures, and clinical notes to ensure compliant coding and data quality within the health system.

The role requires minimum high school, coding courses in anatomy/physiology/terminology, and 1 year of hospital coding experience, with preferred RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A credentials.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School/GED, coding courses completed, 1 year hospital/physician coding experience, 1 year coding in mid-level facilities.
• Experience with coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms; knowledge of HIPAA and privacy policies.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A certification options listed as preferred credentials.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10-CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters data into the designated system.
• Manages unbilled coding report to support cash flow.
• Keeps informed of ICD-10-CM/CPT guideline changes by training and reviewing resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
