Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a qualified Medical Coder to review medical records, assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes, and abstract data for hospital and health system needs. The role supports timely billing and accurate statistical reporting while ensuring HIPAA compliance and up-to-date coding practices.

The position requires a minimum of a High School/GED and coding coursework, with at least 1 year of hospital/physician coding experience; RHIT/RHIA or CPC certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• > Must have completed coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• "> Minimum 1 year hospital and/or physician coding experience.
• "> Experience coding major surgeries, observations and E/Ms.
• "> Strong data entry skills and knowledge of computer applications.
• "> Ability to work with health care team and adhere to HIPAA and coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information, physician treatment plans, course, and outcome to determine appropriate ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests by the hospital, health system, medical staff, etc. and enters all coded/abstracted information into designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow as it pertains to the unbilled coding report.
• Keeps informed of the changes/updates in ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines by attending appropriate training, reviewing coding clinics and other resources and implementing these updates in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
