Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coding Specialist to review medical information and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes. You will abstract data elements and enter information into the hospital information system while supporting timely billing and reporting.

The role requires 1 year of hospital/physician coding, with knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines, medical terminology, and strong data entry skills. Relevant certifications (RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A) are valued.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Completion of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology coding courses.
• 1 year hospital and/or physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding in mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations or E/Ms.
• Medical terminology proficiency.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC or CPC-A certifications may be required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret medical information to assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstract data elements and enter coded information into the designated system.
• Support cash flow by managing unbilled coding reports.
• Stay updated with ICD-10-CM/CPT guideline changes and training materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
