Job summary

Iredell Health System is seeking a skilled Coder/Abstractor to accurately code diagnoses and procedures for billing and statistics. This role codes outpatient and ER records, reviews medical necessity, and communicates with physicians when needed.

• High School Diploma required.
• RHIT or CCS required. Current AHIMA accreditation or certification.
• 1 year medical record experience, coding required.
• Excellent computer and typing skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology; anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to read handwriting; detail oriented; able to work independently.
• Ability to handle stress professionally; identify problems and improve processes.
• Must have eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
• Normal vision/hearing; no color-blindness.
• Must be able to distinguish letters and numbers.

Responsibilities

• Code all outpatient and ER records using ICD-9-CM and CPT.
• Review records for medical necessity; query physicians when needed.
• Monitor ER/outpatient unbilled reports to ensure timely coding.
• Maintain access to patient health information as required.
