Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a skilled Medical Records Coder/Abstractor to review charts, assign ICD-10-CM/ CPT codes, and abstract data elements for statistical reporting. This role contributes to accurate billing and efficient cash flow while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

The ideal candidate will have RHIT/RHIA or CPC certifications, strong data entry, and ability to collaborate with clinicians and the care team in a hospital or clinic setting in Delaware.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School/GED, completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms
• Medical Terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• An understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with members of the health care team
• Any of the following: RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A Apprentice

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes (65%).
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters data into system (15%).
• Manages unbilled coding report to aid cash flow (10%).
• Keeps informed of ICD-10 CM/CPT guideline changes by training and resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned (5%).
