Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) to provide administrative support within the Community Care Service.

The AMSA serves as a liaison among patients, nursing staff, medical staff, outside agencies, community providers, and VA Health Care Systems in the assigned area. Responsibilities include coordinating appointments, managing communications across teams, and maintaining tracking systems for follow-up care and referrals.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required or equivalent
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• No prior experience required (records review on application)
• Ability to communicate with a wide range of medical staff and agencies
• Strong organizational and scheduling abilities

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient scheduling and clinic utilization
• Maintain communication with patient, interdisciplinary team, VA Medical Centers, and outside agencies
• Facilitate secure messaging and follow-up care tracking
• Enter and monitor scheduling data, no-show information, and appointment requests
• Assist in problem solving on operational issues and participate in team meetings
