Job summary

Vail Health Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinicians and care teams with patient care, documentation, and administrative duties. This role involves answering patient calls, managing messages in the patient portal and EHR, and ensuring accurate patient records.

Responsibilities include handling refill requests, coordinating with the care team, and maintaining HIPAA compliance while providing high-quality service to patients.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA compliance, and OSHA rules and regulations required.
• 2 years of experience with applicable patient care and administrative duties preferred.
• Certification as Medical Assistant or equivalent required per state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Fields patient phone calls and voicemails promptly and professionally.
• Handles patient portal and EHR messages within established timeframes.
• Coordinates with providers and team members for patient questions and concerns.
• Processes refill requests according to workflow and applies appropriate criteria.
• Sends complex requests to the provider with full information for processing.
• Manages provider's patient portal messages and sorts to correct inboxes in the EHR.
• Closes loops with patients on requests, questions, results or concerns.
• Ensures accuracy and proper documentation in the EHR.
• Adheres to Just Culture and organizational values; HIPAA compliant.
