Job summary

Norfolk Southern in the United States is offering a six-month Mechanical Supervisor Trainee program across multiple locations, including Chicago and Decatur, IL, with relocation required and classroom plus on-the-job training.

You will lead 8-25 skilled laborers, learn inspections and repairs on locomotives and railcars, and study NS, AAR, and FRA guidelines, with promotion to Mechanical Supervisor after training.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in a supervisory or team-lead role.
• Willingness to relocate and work flexible days/hours as required.
• Some knowledge and maintenance experience of engines and machinery.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new/proprietary programs.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead field teams of 8–25 skilled laborers on locomotives and railcars.
• Learn inspections and repairs at the component level on locomotives and railcars.
• Train and be promoted to Mechanical Supervisor after a six‑month program.
