Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. in the United States seeks a Mechanical Supervisor Trainee to join a six-month training program. You will lead teams of 8-25 laborers, learn inspections and repairs on locomotives and railcars, and study NS, AAR and FRA standards.

Successful completion leads to a supervisory role at a locomotive shop or freight car facility. The position requires relocation across our 22-state network, willingness to work varied shifts, and travel up to four trips per year after training;

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in a supervisory or team-lead role.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand engines and machinery.
• Willingness to relocate anywhere across the 22-state network.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office; ability to learn proprietary programs.
• Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of 8–25 skilled laborers to build, repair, and maintain locomotives and rail cars.
• Learn inspections and component-level repairs on locomotives and railcars.
• Study NS, AAR and FRA compliance standards and practices.
• Contribute to process improvement efforts throughout Norfolk Southern.
• After six months, be promoted to Mechanical Supervisor at a shop or repair facility.
