Job summary

Norfolk Southern in the United States seeks a Mechanical Supervisor Trainee to lead field teams of 8–25 skilled workers and oversee locomotive and railcar maintenance, while undergoing a six-month training program.

During training you will learn inspections, component repairs, and compliance with NS, AAR, and FRA standards, with final placement at a locomotive shop or freight car facility; relocation is required and field work is expected.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience and ability to lead and foster a positive work environment.
• Ability to promote safety awareness and accident prevention.
• Willingness to relocate anywhere within our 22-state network.
• Some knowledge and maintenance experience of engines and machinery.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn proprietary programs.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead world-class teams of 8–25 skilled laborers in locomotive and rail car maintenance.
• Learn inspections and component-level repairs on locomotives and railcars during training.
• Learn NS, AAR, and FRA compliance standards and participate in process improvements.
• After six-month training, be promoted to Mechanical Supervisor at a locomotive shop or freight car facility.
• Work in a fast-paced field environment rather than a desk job.
