Norfolk Southern invites applicants to join as a Mechanical Supervisor Trainee, a six‑month training track that leads to supervision of locomotive shops or freight car facilities. The role is field‑heavy, requiring relocation across our 22‑state network and hands‑on maintenance and inspections of locomotives and railcars.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Leadership role.
• Mechanical Aptitude.
• Preferred Degree Paths: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar field of study.

Responsibilities

• Lead world-class teams of 8–25 skilled laborers in locomotives and railcars.
• Learn inspections and component-level repairs during training.
• Master NS, AAR and FRA compliance standards.
• Participate in process improvements across Norfolk Southern.
• Promote safety and supervise in field/shop environments.
