Job summary

Norfolk Southern seeks a Mechanical Supervisor Trainee to lead field teams and oversee locomotive and rail car maintenance during a six-month training program. You will learn inspections, repairs, and compliance with NS, AAR and FRA standards while preparing for promotion to a Mechanical Supervisor.

The role requires relocating as needed and working in a fast-paced field environment across multiple sites within Norfolk Southern's network.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Leadership role.
• Mechanical Aptitude.
• Preferred Degree Paths: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar field of study.

Responsibilities

• Lead field teams of 8–25 workers on locomotives and rail cars.
• Learn inspections and repairs at the component level during training.
• Comply with Norfolk Southern, AAR and FRA standards.
• Advance to Mechanical Supervisor after six months of training.
• Be prepared for field work and relocation as needed.
