Job summary

Norfolk Southern is recruiting for a Mechanical Supervisor Trainee in a fast-paced field environment. You will supervise 8–25 skilled workers, learn inspections and repairs on locomotives and railcars, and complete a six‑month training program before promotion to a Mechanical Supervisor at a locomotive shop or freight car facility.

The role emphasizes in-field work, relocation across a 22-state network, and a path toward leadership with ongoing career development and safety focus.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in managing teams and resolving conflicts.
• Familiarity with safety standards and procedures (AAR/FRA).
• Willingness to relocate within NS network and work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of 8–25 skilled workers in locomotive and railcar construction, repair, and maintenance.
• Learn inspections and repairs at component level and participate in supervision training.
• Transition after six months to a Mechanical Supervisor role at a locomotive shop or freight car facility.
