Job summary

General Motors is seeking Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Interns for hands-on work that supports plant operations and improvements. You will gain experience leading mechanical projects across multiple areas and contribute to maintenance and new program initiatives in a real manufacturing setting.

The internship emphasizes learning through working on mechanical support for programs, goal-oriented improvements, and providing direction to support personnel in a fast-paced plant environment.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechatronics
• Graduating between Aug 2027 and Jun 2029
• Able to work full-time 40 hours per week
• Willing to work in a plant environment

Responsibilities

• Mechanical root cause analysis and problem solving
• Analyze product, process and technology to figure out the best methods of manufacture
• Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes
• Assist maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of specialized equipment
• Troubleshoot special maintenance and equipment problem
• Coordinate machinery upgrade projects
• Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and up to 40 lbs periodically
• Occasionally sit, climb ladders and drive vehicles/equipment
