Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Drafter 3 to support mechanical design teams on Oil & Gas and Power projects. The role combines hands-on drafting with 3D layout development, incorporating engineering markups and producing detailed CAD drawings.

The position offers a hybrid schedule—three days in the office and two days remote—plus a broad benefits package and opportunities to work with cross-disciplinary teams on field data gathering and site walkdowns.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or relevant drafting experience required.
• 1+ year of drafting experience in industrial mechanical design.
• Knowledge of mechanical general arrangements, piping and supports.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CAD software, and 3D plant layout tools.
• Strong communication, organization, accuracy, multitasking and safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, revise, and maintain complex drawing diagrams, layouts, and detailed mechanical design drawings using CAD and 3D modeling tools.
• Interpret and incorporate engineering markups into project drawings and deliverables.
• Support multidisciplinary engineering and design teams in the development of mechanical physical layout drawings in a 3D model environment.
• Apply company and project drafting standards while working to project plans, schedules, deadlines, priorities, and budget constraints.
• Assist with field activities such as gathering measurements, locating tie-ins, as-building existing systems, and supporting walkdowns and data collection at client facilities.
• Maintain effective communication with project team members and provide support needed to complete accurate, timely design deliverables.
