Job summary

Formic is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to own mechanical design, documentation, and commissioning of electromechanical systems. You will lead EOAT development and floor integration, ensuring production-ready designs before fleet rollout.

Collaborating with Project Engineering and Software teams, you will release 3D CAD models, manage BOMs, and support build, testing, and troubleshooting on the floor in the Chicago area.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of mechanical design experience in automation or robotics.
• Own mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing release.
• Proficient in SolidWorks with complete machine or system assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of automation systems and EOAT from concept through release.
• Design, prototype, assemble, and test automated systems using SolidWorks CAD.
• Maintain model structures, release processes, and BOMs.
• Build and commission automation systems on the shop floor.
• Develop documentation, SOPs, and work instructions.
• Collaborate with Project Engineering and Software teams.
• Troubleshoot and optimize mechanical issues across deployments.
• Interface with vendors and external integrators as needed.
• Contribute to DFx (design for manufacturability/assembly) practices.
