Formic Technologies is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design, documentation, and commissioning of electromechanical systems. You will lead design from concept through SolidWorks modeling, release, and BOM management, while driving floor integration and EOAT deployment to scale automation across Formic's fleet.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Design, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related field.
• Experience owning mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing release, including full 3D assemblies, drawings, BOMs.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks, with experience designing complete machine or system assemblies.
• Familiarity with industrial robotic systems and their integration.
• Willingness to work hands-on on the shop floor, including assembly and testing.
• Located in or willing to relocate to the greater Chicago, IL area and work on-site; ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of automation systems from concept through release.
• Design, prototype, assemble, and test automated EOAT and floor‑level systems using SolidWorks.
• Maintain SolidWorks model structures, assemblies, and release documentation with revision control.
• Create detailed mechanical design documentation including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and SOPs.
• Design EOAT and implement on the floor for build, integration, and commissioning.
