Job summary

Formic Technologies in Chicago, IL is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to own the mechanical design, documentation, and commissioning of electromechanical systems. You will drive design from concept to production release, create BOMs and drawings, and lead EOAT development and floor integration for scalable automation solutions.

You will collaborate with Project Engineering and Software teams to ensure reliable, manufacturable, and deployable automation platforms.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in Mechanical Design or Mechatronics for industrial automation.
• Experience owning designs from concept to manufacturing release with full assemblies and BOMs.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and GD&T for fabrication-ready drawings.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of automation systems and EOAT from concept through release.
• Design, prototype, assemble, and test automated end-of-line systems using SolidWorks.
• Maintain SolidWorks models, assemblies, and controlled release processes; manage revisions.
• Create detailed mechanical documentation: CAD models, drawings, BOMs, SOPs, instructions.
• Lead EOAT designs and floor integration for build, commissioning of systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive product delivery.
• Troubleshoot hardware and mechanical issues; perform root cause analysis and improvements.
• Develop test plans to validate functionality and compliance with mechanical specs.
