Job summary

Formic Technologies Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer in the greater Chicago, IL area to own mechanical design, documentation, and commissioning of electromechanical systems within the Automation Engineering Group.

You will lead EOAT development, SolidWorks modeling, BOM management, and floor integration to ensure production readiness across Formic's fleet. The role blends mechanical design with on-site field work, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on testing to deliver

Qualifications

3+ years in Mechanical Design or Mechatronics related field.
Experience designing mechanical systems for industrial automation and robotics.
Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD and engineering drawing release processes.
Strong drafting and GD&T skills for fabrication and assembly.
Familiarity with robotics and EOAT integration is a plus.

Responsibilities

Own mechanical design of automation systems and EOAT from concept through release.
Design, prototype, assemble, and test automated end-of-line systems using SolidWorks.
Maintain organized SolidWorks models, assemblies, and release documentation.
Create mechanical design docs: CAD models, drawings, BOMs, SOPs, and work instructions.
Lead on-floor build, integration, and commissioning of automation systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams for cohesive product delivery.
