Job summary

Unipart Group is seeking a design engineer to join the Engineering Design Team. You will develop mechanical and hydraulic systems for rail machinery, using new technologies to support growth and maintain safety, reliability, and efficiency.

You will create 3D models and 2D drawings, validate with FEA, and prepare full documentation, technical specifications and user manuals for projects under supervision.

Qualifications

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
• Excellent interpersonal skills to build cross-functional relationships and influence stakeholders.
• Experience/knowledge of rail industry standards and approvals processes.
• Experience of railway industry or other safety-critical sector.
• Electrical knowledge (solenoids, E-Stops, PLC).

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models, 2D details and schematics for hydraulic circuits and mechanical assemblies.
• Validate designs using FEA and calculations to ensure structural integrity.
• Oversee testing of plant attachments or vehicle modifications and produce technical files.
• Produce documentation, drawings, technical specifications and user manuals.
• Contribute to safety cases and Design for Reliability reviews.
