Job summary

Modern Machining Solutions Inc. in Morris County, NJ, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a 3–4 year track record in mechanical design and SolidWorks proficiency to design water and wastewater equipment and produce fabrication drawings for in-house manufacturing.

You will work closely with fabrication shop personnel to iterate designs, optimize build methods, and ensure parts fit on first build. This is a hands-on role with a strong shop-floor interface and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Required.
• 3 or 4 years of mechanical design experience. A standout candidate with less will be considered.
• Proficient in SolidWorks. It is the platform for all design and fabrication drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude. You can look at a need and work out how to build it, not just draw it.
• Accurate, detail-oriented drawing work, and comfortable talking a design through with the people who fabricate it.
• Local to northern New Jersey and able to work fully onsite in Morris County. Relocation assistance is not offered.
• Strongly preferred: experience designing conveyors or similar fabricated equipment. A water and wastewater background is a plus, not required.
• Nice to have: you enjoy design work and want to keep doing it, with room to grow from there.

Responsibilities

• Design water and wastewater equipment in SolidWorks and produce the fabrication drawings the shop builds from.
• Work out how to build what the customer needs, including equipment the company has not made before.
• Carry conveyor designs, the bulk of the workload, from requirements through released drawings.
• Visit the company's nearby fabrication shop to review plans, check progress, and resolve build questions with the fabricators.
• Prepare drawings for outside fabricators, with the level of detail each one needs.
• Support the project engineer running each order with the design work that order requires.
• Get the details right before release, so equipment is built once and fits the first time.
