Job summary

The State of Minnesota's Dairy and Meat Inspection Division is seeking a Meat Inspector to perform ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections at meat and poultry facilities, educating firms on regulations and supporting food safety programs.

You will travel to assigned counties, work a day shift, and ensure compliance with HACCP and sanitation standards. A related degree or equivalent experience is required, with a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Meat Science, Animal Science, Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field.
• One year of experience conducting meat and poultry inspections or other applicable experience in meat/poultry processing or production systems.
• Must maintain an active/valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Perform ante-mortem and post-mmortem inspections at meat and poultry operations.
• Evaluate plant sanitation procedures and practices.
• Verify the effectiveness of the firm’s HACCP plan and monitor Critical Control Points.
• Educate firm operators on existing and new regulations.
• Flexibility to adjust schedule to accommodate slaughter operation start times and relief work.
