Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Materials and Process Engineer II focused on Thermal Protection Systems (TPS). You will design, develop, and implement materials and processes for a space vehicle, selecting and characterizing materials for extreme thermal environments.

You will lead material test campaigns, coordinate with labs/vendors, manage fabrication and lab characterization, and maintain data pedigree for all tested hardware while supporting design, manufacturing, and refurbishment of TPS.

Qualifications

• BS in Materials Science, Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering or closely related field.
• 2+ years of experience in Materials and Process Engineering.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings/models and apply their intent.
• Experience with non-conformances dispositioning and test campaigns.

Responsibilities

• Lead material test campaigns from planning to data delivery.
• Evaluate and select TPS materials for mechanical/thermal/environmental performance.
• Fabricate test articles, manage lab characterization activities.
• Maintain traceability of specimens, lots and batches.
• Perform data reduction and analysis to produce actionable results.
• Create and maintain test procedures, reports, and material/process specs.
• Collaborate with design/manufacturing to integrate requirements into vehicle design.
• Support production, integration and refurbishment of TPS.
• Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
