Job summary

Blue Origin in Colorado is seeking a Materials & Processes Engineer to advance M&P engineering for aerospace materials and processes, ensuring parts and processes meet spacecraft requirements from design through manufacturing.

The role focuses on tribology, lubricants for vacuum, coatings, and wear mechanisms, with opportunities to review drawings, sign off releases, and collaborate across Blue Origin sites to deliver safe, repeatable spaceflight hardware.

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering with 6+ years M&P experience on a production space program.
• Expertise in tribology, lubrication science, coatings and wear mechanisms.
• Experience with solid film and liquid lubricants for space and vacuum environments.
• Experience in materials and manufacturing process review, development and qualification.
• Proven ability to develop and execute test plans for analysis and qualification.
• Knowledge of material data analysis standards (MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
• Experience organizing M&P data in accessible databases.
• Ability to travel to Blue Origin and vendor sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide M&P engineering support for aerospace materials and processes.
• Provide design engineering support for mechanical systems and mechanisms meeting vehicle requirements.
• Execute characterization and qualification efforts related to materials and processes.
• Review production drawings for large complex assemblies and document reviews.
• Signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies.
• Evaluate lubricants, coatings, and surface treatments for vacuum, cryogenic, high-cycle-life applications.
• Characterize friction, wear, and lubrication behavior through testing.
• Support internal/external M&P efforts, including specifications, supplier qualification, FAI, testing, and updates.
• Develop internal engineering and quality processes to standardize material evaluation and qualification.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Lunar organization and other business units.
