Job summary

Arizona State University is seeking a Facilities Assistant 2 Non-Exempt to support the Zero Waste program and campus maintenance. The role requires inspecting, maintaining, and repairing basic equipment and facilities to meet standards and prevent damage.

The position involves daily recycling route collections, coordinating hauling services, and leading a team of Material Handlers. Strong communication and MS Office skills are valued, along with the ability to work outdoors in a desert climate.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of related experience.
• OR an equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
• Experience with recycling/solid waste programs.
• Ability to operate and assist with yard maintenance and vehicle tasks.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily waste and recycling routes and special requests.
• Coordinate solid waste hauling services with ASU’s partner.
• Oversee maintenance at solid waste hauling locations on ASU campuses.
• Implement waste and recycling programs on all ASU campuses.
• Provide excellent customer service when interacting with students, staff and faculty.
• Drive, load, and unload 15-foot stake-bed truck and cargo vans.
• Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies).
• Operate solid waste compactors and other hydraulic machines.
• Work outdoors lifting, standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods (up to 70 lbs).
• Use work order systems (TMA) for maintenance requests.
• Communicate effectively to perform essential job functions.
