Job summary

Arizona State University is seeking a Materials Handler Lead in Tempe to oversee daily recycling routes, coordinate hauling, and manage yard maintenance and vehicle inspections. The role provides guidance to a team of Material Handlers and responds to inquiries across campus regarding proper disposal of recyclables to support ASU’s zero waste goals.

Expect to operate trucks and forklifts, work outdoors in a desert climate, and use work order systems to fulfill maintenance requests.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and two years of experience in the area or equivalent combination of experience/training.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher and Outlook.
• Experience in recycling/solid waste collection programs and facilities maintenance.
• Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or dollies.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily waste and recycling routes and special requests.
• Coordinate solid waste hauling with ASU’s contracted partner.
• Oversee maintenance at all solid waste hauling locations on ASU campuses.
• Implement waste and recycling programs across all ASU campuses.
• Provide exceptional customer service to students, staff and faculty.
• Drive, load, and unload a 15-foot stake-bed truck and cargo vans.
• Operate material handling equipment and hydraulic compactors.
• Work outdoors lifting, standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
