Job summary

LAC Federal seeks an experienced Cataloging Librarian to support a federal library in Alexandria, Virginia. You will perform original and copy cataloging of print materials, creating MARC-based records and ensuring quality, accuracy, and accessibility of resources.

Requirements include an MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program, 2+ years MARC-based cataloging, and familiarity with RDA, AACR2, and LCSH. This is an on-site federal contract position in Alexandria, VA.

Qualifications

MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
Two+ years of professional MARC-based cataloging experience.
Experience applying AACR2 and/or RDA.
Experience with original and copy cataloging.
Ability to create complete bibliographic records for print materials.
Descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, classification, and access point creation.
Working knowledge of LCSH.
Ability to review/edit bibliographic records for accuracy.
Strong research, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work on-site in Alexandria, VA and meet facility access requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform original and copy cataloging of print materials.
Record bibliographic elements including title, author, edition, and publication details.
Create MARC-based bibliographic records in the library system.
Apply current cataloging standards including RDA and AACR2.
Assign LCSH and other subject headings.
Assign classification and access points for discovery.
Produce bibliographic notes and descriptive metadata.
Resolve complex cataloging questions with professional judgment.
Perform quality control to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Stay current with evolving cataloging standards and library technologies.
Work in a federal government environment on-site in Alexandria, VA.
