Job summary

BCCLS is seeking a full-time Librarian to join its Cataloging Department in New Jersey. The role reports to the Executive Director and involves providing original and copy cataloging, maintaining data quality, and supporting staff across the library system. Travel to conferences is expected.

The librarian will handle MARC records, adhere to AACR2/RDA standards, and contribute to collection development efforts while delivering high-level customer service.

Qualifications

• MLS from an ALA-accredited library science program.
• Excellent English, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Creates original and copy-cataloged MARC records for materials submitted for catalog entry in compliance with AACR2, RDA, MARC, LCSH standards and local cataloging policies
• Provides original cataloging for local history, self-published items, brand new items, reprints, etc.
• Maintains and cleans up data fields as needed
• Responds to cataloging- and linking-related inquiries from library staff
• Provides training and support for cataloging
• Keeps informed of cataloging developments and collection development trends
