Job summary

LAC Federal is seeking an experienced Cataloger to support a major federal library. This hybrid role, based in Washington, DC, focuses on cataloging books, digital resources, and other library materials to ensure bibliographic accuracy within an ILS.

The candidate will use RDA/MARC21, LC subject headings, and LC classification, with exposure to OCLC, SirsiDynix Symphony, and metadata management. Strong written and oral skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library and information science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
• At least 2 years of cataloging experience.
• Strong knowledge of cataloging standards including RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC and MARC21.
• Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony and workflows preferred.
• Familiarity with ILS, OCLC Connexion, Classification Web, and LC Authorities.
• Metadata and taxonomy experience for catalog collections.

Responsibilities

• Perform original and copy cataloging of library materials in various formats using OCLC, RDA Toolkit, Marcive, and SirsiDynix.
• Create and maintain bibliographic records using MARC, RDA standards, LC subject headings, and LC classification standards.
• Create, update, and withdraw cataloging records within the ILS and update OCLC holdings as needed.
• Assist with withdrawing materials and support collection space planning.
• Identify and support cataloging projects and process improvements for accessibility and discoverability.
• Develop, document, and update cataloging best practices and local guidelines.
• Stay current with evolving cataloging standards and technologies.
