Job summary

LAC Federal in Alexandria, Virginia seeks a Cataloging Librarian to provide professional original and copy cataloging for a substantial print collection. The role requires MARC, RDA, and AACR2 proficiency and strong authority control skills. On-site federal contract position with emphasis on quality bibliographic records.

Responsibilities include creating MARC records, applying LCSH, and maintaining accurate classification and access points for efficient discovery and retrieval.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Two years of professional cataloging experience using the MARC framework.
• Experience applying AACR2 and/or RDA cataloging standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform original and copy cataloging of print library materials.
• Record bibliographic elements (title, statement of responsibility, edition, publication info).
• Create MARC-based bibliographic records in the library system.
• Apply current cataloging standards (RDA, AACR2).
• Assign LCSH and other subject headings; apply classification and access points.
• Perform quality-control reviews for accuracy and consistency.
• Research and resolve complex cataloging questions.
